Image hosting for nostr that keeps your location private

A photo straight off a phone carries the GPS position it was taken at, the camera model and the time. Posted publicly on nostr, that's a map to your home. blosstr removes that metadata from images before they're stored, and serves them from Cloudflare's network.

Metadata is removed before storage

When a JPEG, PNG or WebP image arrives, blosstr strips its EXIF block and other metadata segments before storing it, so the copy that's served has no GPS position, camera serial or timestamp. If GPS data can't be removed, the upload is refused rather than stored.

Stripping changes the file's bytes, so the stored file has a new sha256. Blossom clients use the hash and URL the server returns, so this needs nothing from you.

Built for posting, not just storing

  • Upload responses include NIP-94 tags (BUD-08), so clients can show dimensions and type before the image loads.
  • URLs end in the file extension, https://blosstr.com/<sha256>.jpg, which link previews and older clients understand.
  • Files are served with long cache lifetimes, since a hash never changes what it points to.

Questions

Which image formats can I upload?

JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP and other common image formats, up to 1 GB per file. Metadata is removed from JPEG, PNG and WebP.

Are my images compressed?

No. Apart from removing metadata, blosstr stores and serves the bytes you uploaded.

Can I delete an image?

Yes, from your dashboard or any Blossom client. Only the key that uploaded a file can delete it.
