Streaming without a streaming service
Video players fetch a file a piece at a time using HTTP range requests. blosstr answers them from Cloudflare's network, so a viewer can start a long video straight away or skip to the middle without downloading the whole file.
Large uploads that don't fail halfway
Uploads from the dashboard over 90 MB are sent in chunks. Each chunk is stored as it arrives, and the finished file is checked against its sha256 before it's kept, so a dropped connection costs one chunk, not the whole upload. The same multipart API is documented for apps.
Bring videos you've already posted elsewhere
Subscribers can import media from a post on X or a YouTube video from the dashboard. blosstr fetches the file, stores it under your key and gives you a URL to post on nostr.
Questions
What's the largest video I can upload?
1 GB per file on every plan. Total storage depends on the plan: 20 GB, 100 GB or 500 GB.
Do videos get re-encoded?
No. You get back exactly the file you uploaded, so encode it the way you want it played.
Which clients play blosstr videos?
Any nostr client that plays video URLs. Files are served with the right content type and range support.
